David Westphal Brings Nissan to Big Bear

David Westphal’s eye for beautiful landscapes that compliment automobiles of all shapes and sizes came in handy for his recent shoot with the Designory for the Nissan NCV van.

He and his team trekked up to Big Bear to set the large utility van among towering trees and streaming beams of light to make the vehicle look majestic and, well, useful. David first photographed the van with a family in tow ready to rough it for the night among the pinecones to illustrate the capacity of the enormous vehicle.

As David tells us, “it was a real challenge to find enough stuff to fit into the van.  It was that large.” However, having great prop stylists on board, they packed the van full of sleeping bags, coolers, chairs and more to show the expanse of the space. The second shot was captured on the side of a dirt road with a vast meadow in the background that gave the vehicle and image room to breathe, supporting the minimalistic style of the Nissan and natural feel David was going for.

“In the woods filled with trees, (achieving that style) was a challenge,” says David, “but we certainly pulled it off.” At the end of the day, and in the middle of the woods, the whole team walked away watching a breathtaking sunset with beautiful imagery of the new Nissan NCV van ready to share with the world.
