Jim Purdum: The Charmed Life of Breckenridge Main Street

A beckoning mountain town with spectacular vistas and a touch of sophistication for all seasons – does a hidden gem like this exist? You bet it does, and Jim Purdum has captured it all for Vail Resorts in Breckenridge, Colorado, with a new resort campaign for Breckenridge Main Street.

This past year, Jim was hired by Vail Resorts to showcase the charming main street vibe of the old west mining town known affectionately as Breck. Picturesque, family friendly and accessible – great shopping, lots of terrific restaurants and a fun nightlife are on fabulous display for everyone to enjoy in Breckenridge Main Street. Jim’s warm and inclusive approach was a perfect match to shoot this ski resort of alpine terrain and temperatures. A love of exploration and inspiring confidence in his subjects for real moments are key to his authentic unhurried storytelling. We are all invited to the party, as he showcases people in their 20s and 30s having a great time, day and night, in this quaint village of alleyways and shops set against a backdrop of rugged scenery.

Even charming ski resorts can present some tricky challenges. With a lack of snow and some unusually warm temperatures, Jim had to think fast and carefully in choosing his shots and angles. “We also improvised and adjusted the shot list and locations as needed to be less wide so that we could hide the lack of snow,” adds Jim. He shot stills of each scene before the video team moved in to get their shots, so there was always a smooth and seamless transition for each team.

It’s the kind of shoot Jim loves to work on, as the client allowed him so much freedom to develop ideas and scenes. He was able to convey the good-natured vibe of this big little town in real moments of pure pleasure, excitement, peace and relaxation. Our bags are packed , credit cards at the ready, and even our dogs are welcome at friendly, no-attitude Breck Main Street. The campaign will be featured primarily in print and video broadcast for Internet usage.
