Peter Rodger Creates Cool Realism in a Fun, Fashionable Shooting Style for Ad Clients
Peter Rodger knows how to captivate an audience. An award-winning international commercial, film director and photographer, he is always evolving and looking for new and fascinating ways to engage us with realism in people, places, ideas and performances.
Recently, Peter was asked to put together a cool way of shooting for a fashion client. He was in Tangier, Morocco and invited to a lot of great parties that were very visual, and so he just started shooting them. He wanted to create a style that had vitality, energy and was playful in an exotic yet approachable world. With his trusty little Sony A7S Mark II, Peter got to observe and shoot fashionable, lighthearted characters framed by sumptuous art and architecture. Experimenting with a stop motion vibe, pulling focus and shooting at different speeds, he created a 1920s over-cranked, silent-movie look with a nod to the beloved Felliniesque.
Shot on a 35mm lens, the imagery is natural yet very elegant. Once finished in editing, Peter applied the stills to a spec spot for Heineken since they were so fitting to previous campaigns and topped it off with an exuberant soundtrack. Photorealism and dazzling eye-candy are an irresistible combination for great messaging— the Heineken Bohemian spot delivers it all.
Unique in style, the stop-motion process shows off many kinds of assignments for fashion, product advertising and hospitality. Since it is more like a stills shoot than a motion shoot, the style is ideal for providing agencies and clients with the ability to use any frame they like in ultra high res for print campaigns or any additional stills for short, pumped-up blasts of content for Instagram and other social media outlets and even outdoor promotions. And it’s easy to shoot, as it only requires a one-person crew. Peter has developed the technique for clients from various industries.as hotels, fashion, and vibrant street style.
We love the way Peter sees the world and puts his soul into every project he works on. Treat yourself to his latest vision of earthly delights with the Heineken Bohemian spec spot. You’ll be hooked. See more of Peter’s latest work at his site and follow him @peterrodger for more updates.
