What happens when you leave a food photographer, a prop stylist and a food stylist in one room? In this case, a creative explosion now known as #MakingFaces.
When the team first got together, ideas ran rampant as Prop Stylist Jessica Agullo raided Colin’s prop closet in search of plates, glasses and other unique kitchen doodads that would lay the foundation for a series of funny faces. As Colin tells us, “you may be surprised, but working with the simplest objects right out of the kitchen, it seemed everything could make a face.”
Every set up needed a pair of eyes, a nose and a mouth, and what those were made from ranged from cans of olives to pieces of sushi to even a half eaten piece of corn on the cob. Some of the images are minimal in style and others get a bit wild, but overall the idea was simplicity… and FUN.
Food Stylist Louise Leonard brought her skills to the table here to create a perfectly pouted lip made from pickled ginger, cat-like eyes framed with lettuce lashes and a head of hair coifed out of Japanese nori. We aren’t certain, but Ms. Nori may have recently fallen in love with the new face on the block, Rock Star.
Mr. Star was crafted out of a 20lb rock Jessica brought back from Maine, a very large sea urchin Louise grabbed in China town and trident from the deepest parts of the prop closet. This look was perfectly completed with a touch of Tobasco sauce in the oyster eye because we know he was up late partying.
Colin and his team are having so much fun with this project and its endless possibilities so stay tuned for more funny food faces to come.
